Australian soul sensation Luke Antony to pay homage to gay icons Cyndi Lauper and Kylie Minogue at 2016 Munich Pride
Soulful Australian vocalist Luke Antony is set to light up the stage when he debuts his hot new single “Separate Ways” at the 2016 Munich Pride Festival on July 9.
“Separate Ways” has been chosen as this year’s festival theme song and was released worldwide on July 2, 2016. Featuring strong messages of equality, it also dazzles with its catchy, electro-dance vibe, which showcases Luke’s amazing vocal range, which has been compared to the likes of Sam Smith. In addition Luke will pay homage to gay icons and pop legends Cyndi Lauper and Kylie Minogue during his 40-minute show.
Lauper has been a tireless champion for the LGBTIQ community for more than 30 years. She co-founded the True Colors Fund to inspire and engage everyone, especially straight people, to become active participants in the advancement of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality and to raise awareness about and bring an end to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth homelessness.
Luke will perform a moving rendition of Cyndi’s hit song “True Colors” and will be joined onstage by the Munich Rainbow Choir.
“Cyndi is a total star – and what a warrior she has been for our community!” says Luke. “I really wanted to dedicate a song to the Orlando massacre and her incredibly iconic song ‘True Colors’ is the perfect fit.”
Luke will also honor fellow Aussie and international superstar Minogue by performing one of her greatest hits of all time. Throughout her incredible career spanning three decades, Kylie has been lovingly embraced by the LGBTIQ community and reached gay icon status.
“I’ll be performing one of Kylie’s greatest hits, however I don’t want to reveal what it is,” says Luke. “It’s more fun revealing it as a surprise on the night! Kylie has always been such a pioneer for Australian artists and a pioneer for LGBTIQ communities. She makes people feel free and uninhibited, that’s why we love her.”
The 2016 Munich Pride Festival is one of the biggest on the international LGBTIQ calendar. It attracts around 200,000 people from around the world every year. A passionate advocate for the LGBTIQ community, Luke is donating 50 percent of net profits from the sales of “Separate Ways” to CSD Muenchen.
The single’s music video, which was shot in Sydney, depicts a love story between two young women and Luke is the narrator.
“What we show in the film clip is overt, but it’s simply life and reality for millions of people in the LGBTIQ community,” says Luke. “I really wanted to explore a love story in the song that was real and relevant in today’s society.”
The challenges of having a gay relationship are a really current topic that continues to raise interest in the media.
“Separate Ways” is available from all leading music retailers and streaming services.
