The daughter of the former Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town married her longtime girlfriend December 30.

Rev. Mpho Tutu, an ordained Episcopal priest herself, married Marceline van Furth, a South African HIV/AIDS activist had a small private ceremony in the Netherlands but plan on having a larger public marriage ceremony in Cape Town in May.
Tutu’s father, retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been outspoken about his stance for same-sex marriage.
“I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven,” he said in 2013, before his daughter’s sexual orientation was public. “No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place. I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.”
In May, Tutu, who is also the executive director and founder of the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage, was accused of “hijacking” the Desmond Tutu Peace Trust. It was shut down.
“We decided to just wind up the organization without embarrassing the archbishop,” Saki Macozoma, a member of the board of trust, said. “I really don’t want to talk about that woman’s behavior.”
Recently, Tutu presided over her parents as they retook their vows after 60 years of marriage.
Tutu was previously married to U.S. journalist Joseph Burris and they have two daughters.
