The series, which has returned for its third season, follows Star Butterfly (voiced by The Middle’s Eden Sher) as she navigates high school.
During the episode with the kiss, titled “Just Friends,” Star Butterfly’s male crush kisses another girl. In a scene that was “so nonchalant that it’s almost unnoticeable,” there was both a gay and a lesbian couple kissing as Star notices she is suddenly surrounded by kissing couples.
The kiss comes after an interview with Attitude in which Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast revealed that history will be made with Disney’s first ever “exclusively gay moment” on film.

Stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens said director Bill Condon used a true story to create a character with an LGBT subplot in the movie.
“LeFou (played by Josh Gad) is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston (played by Luke Evans) and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” revealed Condon. “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
Disney has had a few LGBT relationships in previous shows. A 2014 episode of Good Luck Charlie featured a character with two moms, and someone tweeted an adult gay couple appeared Star vs Forces Evil’s season finale which premiered a few days after “Just Friends.”
