News is breaking that former Harold & Kumar star Kal Penn will host a portion of the Democratic National Convention’s (DNC) livestream special.
According to Deadline.com Monday:
The Indian-American [actor] from New Jersey has been visiting 2012 battleground states drumming up Obama support among young voters. One report claims he’ll take the podium during Tuesday night’s DNC program. But his starring role comes Thursday when he’s hosting a web-only convention special called “Live From Charlotte” starting at 8 PM ET. It will include interviews with campaign officials and Obama supporter celebs including singer Marc Anthony, film actress Elizabeth Banks, CBS’ The Talk co-host Aisha Tyler, TV/film actress Olivia Wilde, The Nanny and now TVLand sitcom star Fran Drescher, TV/film star Zach Braff, and Gilmore Girls‘ Alexis Bledel.
Obama Campaign Co-Chair Eva Longoria, formerly of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, is scheduled to speak during this week’s Democratic National Convention. After stumping for Obama in 2008, and hosting Florida’s Women’s Summit in early August, the Latina activist will be one of nine women addressing the convention from the podium in Charlotte.
Later that evening, after President Obama’s address, there will be a post-speech program featuring political analysis from political leaders.
“We are revolutionizing the way political conventions are done by making Charlotte 2012 more open, accessible and relevant to the American people,” OFA Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter said. “This is one more innovative and unprecedented way we are engaging every supporter in the President’s vision for moving America forward, empowering voters all over the country to get involved with what’s happening in North Carolina this week, and growing our organization at the grassroots level.”
From gavel-to-gavel, the entire Convention will be livestreamed on DemConvention.com/live and through the Democratic National Convention Committee Mobile App, connecting viewers in every corner of the country with Convention delegates and speakers in real time.
The entire program will be streamed in Spanish simultaneously.
Millions of Americans will also be participating in more than 4,000 watch parties organized already in neighborhoods across the country. Some of these watch parties will be highlighted as part of Thursday night’s programming.
The first two days of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Tuesday, September 4 and Wednesday, September 5, will be held at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. President Obama and Vice President Biden will accept the Democratic nominations for President and Vice President on Thursday, September 6 at Bank of America Stadium.
