Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings leads all players and Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird tops the Western Conference following early returns of the 2011 WNBA All-Star Balloting presented by T-Mobile.
The 2011 WNBA All-Star Game will be nationally broadcast on ABC, Saturday, July 23, at 3:30pm ET. It is the first time the San Antonio Silver Stars are hosting the midseason showcase.
In addition to Catchings (19,943), leading vote-getters by position in the Eastern Conference include guards Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty (11,859) and Katie Douglas of the Indiana Fever (11,217), forward Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream (8,912) and center Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun (9,837).
Joining Bird (15,203) as fan favorites in the Western Conference are guards Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury (13,371) and Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Silver Stars (9,204), in addition to forwards Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx (12,762) and Swin Cash of the Storm (8,797), and center Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks (12,626).
The 60 players included on the ballot represent all 12 WNBA teams. Voters are asked to select two guards, two forwards, and one center from each conference. A write-in option is also available, allowing fans to choose players not listed on the ballot. The player with the most write-in votes to date is San Antonio’s rookie forward Danielle Adams (1,808).
The 2011 WNBA All-Star Balloting presented by T-Mobile allows fans around the world to vote daily for their favorite players as starters for the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game. Fans can cast their votes in a variety of ways, including on wnba.com, and through mobile phones by texting the player’s last name to 6-9-6-2-2 or by visiting m.wnba.com on any wireless carrier. All balloting will conclude at midnight ET on July 10.
For SMS voting, fans can vote for All-Stars any time by texting a player’s last name from their mobile phones on any wireless carrier. Fans can cast one SMS vote per day, per phone number. Message and data rates may apply. T-Mobile customers will receive an exclusive 15 percent discount code to WNBAStore.com for voting via SMS. Upon voting, T-Mobile customers will receive a bounce-back message with a discount code for them to use on WNBAStore.com.
Fans can also vote directly on WNBA.com or use their Facebook profile information to help create a WNBA.com All-Access account, enabling them to complete a ballot. After submitting their All-Star selections, fans will be able to share them with their friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter, and encourage others to cast their ballots.
Following the completion of fan voting, the WNBA will unveil the starters on ESPN2 on July 14 during the nationally televised game between the Seattle Storm and San Antonio Silver Stars. The league will announce the reserves – which WNBA head coaches will select – on ESPN2 on July 19, during the game between the Storm and the Chicago Sky.
