Passports at the ready? Teatro ZinZanni is taking audiences on a Saharan-style adventure with the revival of the hit dinner-theatre extravaganza, Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis, also part of its 15th Anniversary Season in Seattle.
Directed by Grammy and Emmy Award-winning, Teatro ZinZanni creator and artistic director Norm Langill, Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis marks the return of some of the greatest circus acts Seattle has ever seen, set to the revival of a favorite story, and accompanied by an all-new multi-course dinner and dessert menu by Teatro ZinZanni chef, Erik Carlson. Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis starts in performances on September 12 and tickets are on sale now at the Box Office (206-802-0012) or online.
Returning to the tent and hot off the boards at ACT Theatre for his internationally renowned portrayal of Groucho Marx in An Evening with Groucho, award-winning Frank Ferrante returns as the illustrious Chef Caesar.
“Over the decade, Seattleites have picked up on Caesar’s spirit, and I can’t tell you how many times I have been stopped on the street by audience members who have seen the show and quote me with ‘Look at you’ or ‘You’re a beautiful man,'” Ferrante commented. “The most memorable quote from a patron: ‘I live vicariously through Caesar,’ and that is my mission – to exhilarate while conjuring as many laughs as possible.”
Frank has earned New York’s Theatre World Award, a NY Outer Critics Circle and London’s Laurence Olivier nomination for Comedy Performance of the Year. Due to this popular demand, Ferrante has been a regular at Teatro ZinZanni since 2001, reprising the beloved and arguably most iconic role at the tent, Chef Caesar.
Acclaimed actress, musician, aerialist, and choreographer Dreya Weber also returns to the tent to reprise the role of Cleo, Caesar’s sultry Queen of the Nile. Recently, Dreya wrapped production of the feature film Raven’s Touch, which she co-directed, wrote and performed the title role in. She is arguably one of the country’s top aerialist choreographers having conceived of performance artist P!nk’s celebrated 2010 Grammy performance “Glitter in the Air,” which Oprah Winfrey deemed “transcendent.” Her additional choreographic credits include Michael Jackson, Cher, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and others.
Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis will also feature additional internationally renowned talents including original Teatro ZinZanni cast member, the tap dancing vaudevillian, Wayne Doba; former Cirque du Soleil performer Andrea Conway Doba known for her famous chandelier act; acrobatic trio Les Petits Frères; Ukranian contortionist and hula hoop extraordinaire Vita Radionova; and Seattle favorites, the aerial trapeze experts, Duo Madrona.
Teatro ZinZanni Executive Chef Erik Carlson has designed an all-new 5-course menu for Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis, with entree choices of gourmet Kurobuta Pork Chop, Halibut with basil and fresh fig chutney, or Roasted tomato and fennel quinoa stuffed pepper (gluten and dairy-free options available). Czar and master mixologist, Jamie-Paul Rizzo, will whet your whistle with his creatively delicious hand-crafted cocktails, or you can choose from the carefully selected wine pairings and wine flights. The full dinner menu is available upon request, or will be online in the coming weeks.
Hail Caesar: Forbidden Oasis plays September 12, 2013-January 26, 2014 at Teatro ZinZanni’s spectacular spiegeltent (222 Mercer Street). Tickets (starting at $108) include an incredible feast and may be purchased online at dreams.zinzanni.org or by calling the Box Office at (206) 802-0015.
