The Grey’s Anatomy cast is saying hello to their newest cast member, Genna Davis, who will make her debut in the season 11 premiere.
While not much is known about Davis’ character, she will have a major role as a surgeon in the hospital.
The Hollywood Reporter says that judging from the photos, “Davis’ character could be connected to Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw).”
Show creator Shonda Rhimes said season 11 will look at Callie and Arizona’s relationship, as the two are looking to surrogacy.
“It’s going to be revealed very quickly that it is a Band-Aid,” she said. “It’s going to open up the opportunity for them to finally explore everything that’s wrong and whether or not they should be together at all or whether or not they want to be together at all. Their entire relationship, by the way, has been a series of Band-Aids. It’s heartbreaking and it’s beautiful and it’s either you choose to fix all the Band-Aids that are wrong and be together or you move on. But it’s a choice of commitment and we’re going to watch them explore that stuff.”
Though most information about Davis’ character and the newest season is being kept under wraps, it has been confirmed the first episode will be titled, “I Must Have Lost It on the Wind,” referencing the Elton John song.
Davis, best known for her role in Thelma and Louise and A League of Their Own, has been a longtime supporter of gender equality and launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2007 to work with the “media and entertainment industry to engage, educate, and influence the need to dramatically improve, gender balance, reduce stereotyping and create diverse female characters in entertainment targeting children 11 and under.”
Grey’s Anatomy returns September 25 on ABC.
