According to Advocate.com, everyone knows that the first Saturday of every June LGBT people visiting the Magic Kingdom sport red shirts to acknowledge their LGBT status, making this the unofficial “Gay Day” at Disney World.
However, the fun doesn’t stop at wearing red shirts, but continues with Girls in Wonderland, a four-day weekend with pool parties, live shows, and music just for lesbian and bisexual women.
The weekend has been going on for over 10 years, and this year it will be held at the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista, a place big enough to hold the expected 6,000 partygoers.
As if the two massive pools weren’t enough of an addition to the $25 million renovation the hotel just went through, an 80-foot poolside bar was added as well as a spa and personal cabanas.
The Girls in Wonderland event will have a drag show competition hosted by the legendary Murray Hill and Spikey Van Dikey, along with performances by The Real L Word band Hunter Valentine, comedy shows with Chelsea Lately performer, Fortune Feimster, and celebrity guests like True Blood’s Jessica Clarke and The Voice finalist Beverly McClellan.
Endless parties are slated all night long, but if you’re searching for something a little lower key, Girls in Wonderland offers that as well with a dinner at the Rusty Spoon, a new poker academy, or the cocktail mixer with the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the NCLR for the continuing of legal work on behalf of LGBT people, as well as the Zebra Coalition which helps LGBT youth.
Though VIP passes have been sold, Party Girl Passes are still available!
