Even someone who’s never been to Seattle will soon be able to see just what a gay-friendly city it is. Just a quick stroll round Capitol Hill, with its rainbow-painted crosswalks, shouts it loud and proud – and so does the fact that it’s one of the few cities that hosts not one, but two Pride events each year. Then there are the LBGTQ choruses that are the biggest in the world.

But while it’s great to be part of a community with so many places to go – such as Neighbours Seattle, Queer/Bar and old timers like the 30-year-old R Place – it can also be good to enjoy a quick escape from the scene from time to time.

If you’re looking for a break from the ordinary, a stay at any of the gay-friendly casino resorts in the region is a fun option. Not only will you get the chance to enjoy genuine hospitality within easy reach of the city, there’s also all the thrill of the casino. And if your luck’s in, you could even turn it into a free break as well.

Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort

A little way out of town on the Kitsap Peninsula, overlooking Puget Sound, you’ll find the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. Run by the Suquamish tribe, it first opened in 2006 and over the years has seen many additions and improvements.

Before you even get near to the casino there’s a whole lot more to enjoy including the spectacular waterfront hotel designed with rustic natural beauty to the fore, a full service spa and even a golf course.

The casino covers 22,500 sq ft and within it you’ll be able to play six kinds of blackjack, roulette, craps, Pai Gow and 3 card poker – as well as trying your luck on 1,200 slots machines, too. Fans of Keno will also love the Saturday night tournaments where you can dine while playing – the best of both worlds!

Little Creek Casino and Resort

Little Creek Casino and Resort was established in 2008 by the Squaxin Island Tribe. You’ll find it in the heart of the scenic Kamilche Valley – just a short drive up Highway 101.

The hotel features both rooms and suites, many of which have been recently renovated to amazingly high standards while holding on to the resort’s authentic Native American theme.

It’s also a fantastic destination for food, with no less than six cafés and restaurants. Seafood’s a real specialty here.

In the casino there are all the games you could ever want, including bingo and live Keno with a $50,000 jackpot, Pai Gow poker, roulette and 5 x odds craps too. For the dedicated players there’s also a separate poker room, which hosts a whole range of cash games and tournaments, too.

Tulalip Resort Casino

Also opened in 2008, the Tulalip Resort Casino, prides itself as being the biggest and, so they claim, the best, in the state of Washington.

To get there you’ll have to travel about half and hour north of Seattle up the Interstate 5 until you reach Quil Ceda Village. Once you get there, there certainly are plenty of treats in store. The hotel has 360 rooms and suites, many of which boast 55” flat screen TVs among their many luxury facilities. Throughout the interior you’ll find the history of the resort’s founding tribe, the Tulalip, being celebrated.

But here, more than anywhere, the casino’s the main draw. Covering a huge 192,000 sq ft there are 35 gaming tables where you can play craps, roulette, blackjack and baccarat – plus there’s a separate poker room. There’s also largest collection of slots in the state – 2,200 at the last count – and another great feature for this style of gaming is the pin-protected Tulalip Card, which lets you manage your account without ever leaving your favorite machine.

Emerald Queen Hotel and Casino

Along with its sister casino, the Emerald Queen I-5 in Tacoma, this Fife hotel/casino is run by the Puyallup Tribe. Initially operating the casino from a riverboat, which took to the water in 1996, the owners gradually expanded their operations, opening a hotel and casino in 2005.

The casino features everything you could want and expect, including 2,060 slots, which are frequently updated, as well as all of the standard games. Then there’s the 140-room hotel – comfortable and welcoming, going by many reviews.

But the two aspects of the Emerald Queen Hotel and Casino that really stand out are its food and entertainment. When it comes to dining, the Tatoosh Grill has incredible views over Mount Rainier and the Pacific Rim Buffet. In terms of entertainment, big names regularly appear – two acts appearing in early 2018 are Smokey Robinson and Air Supply. So if you want to combine some gambling with glitz and glamour then this is definitely the place.

As a side note, another great reason to visit any or all of these casinos is the increasing pressure that they are coming under from online casinos which may be starting to take custom away.

There are now an increasing number of impressive online offerings that go a long way towards replicating the real experience; online casinos include glamorous, live dealers, they keep users entertained on a vast selection of games. The live dealers act in real time and you can even chat as you play. There are also all the advantages of being able to play wherever and whenever you want – whether you’re at home or on the move.

However realistic online gaming does become, and however appealing it may seem to stay at home, there’s no denying that the real thrill and glamour of playing in a traditional casino is impossible to replicate 100% online – as you’ll soon discover if you do decide to escape to any of the resorts we’ve just described.
