Sounders Women defender/forward Jaelene Hinkle was named to the United States U-23 National Team on Monday following her All-American season at Texas Tech. Hinkle will compete with other U-23 standouts under new U-23 Head Coach, Steve Swanson during the December 14-21 camp in Sunrise, Florida.
The U-23 event will run concurrently with a U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team camp and the teams will scrimmage against each other during the week.
Prior to the camp announcement, the Texas Tech junior was officially named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Third Team as announced by the organization.
Hinkle, a Denver, Colorado native and three-time NSCAA All-Region selection, is the second Red Raider to be named to the All-America team in as many seasons.
“We are thrilled that Jaelene has been named to the All-America team,” Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. “We see her play every day, so we’ve known since her freshman year what a special player Jaelene is. The 2013 season has been her best to date, so it’s fitting that she has been recognized.”
A standout defender and 2013 All-Big 12 First Team selection, Hinkle paced the Red Raiders with six assists in 2013 as Tech made its second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. With the impressive season Hinkle moved into fourth all-time at Texas Tech in the category with 15 assists in her stellar career.
Three of her assists came in conference play and one came in a 3-0 victory over Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Red Raiders finished the 2013 campaign with an 18-2-3 mark which set a school record for most wins in a season, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA postseason.
Janine Beckie, Hinkle’s Sounders Women and Texas Tech teammate, joined her on the NSCAA All-Central Region First Team.
