For more than 30 years in the entertainment industry, Chaka Khan has been there, done that and has the titillating stories to prove it. She’s worked with masterminds Stevie Wonder, Ashford & Simpson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Robert Palmer, Mary J. Blige, and other popular contemporaries and the thing is…she’s not quite done yet.
I recently asked the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame nominee which memory over the past three decades was closest to her heart. She simply replied, “Working with Miles Davis.” When a colleague asked which collaborations she wished she had the chance to entertain, she introspectively shared, “Amy Winehouse was my choice.”
On the subject of her lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) fans welcoming her to The Dinah 2012 Khan said, “It’s fabulous. My gay and lesbian fans have always been there for me. They are my most loyal. I know we’re going to have a wonderful time!”
The Chaka Khan Foundation provides help and education to children and young-adults who are victims of domestic violence, substance abuse and autism. The cause is monumental in Khan’s life – a fact that came through with weighted clarity in our interview.
“Empowering the innocent is my passion and purpose. Children and women at risk are who we assist through the Chaka Khan Foundation,” Khan shared.
With so many women screaming, “I Feel for You,” many have wondered if Khan feels that special tingle for any particular females in her life. When the subject of a girl-on-girl crush came to light, Khan jokingly replied, “Not at the moment!”
Perhaps that will change in 2012. What? It’s the Age of Aquarius – anything can happen! Find out more about Khan and her plans to soak up the sun in Palm Springs here.
