The story of A Great Big World began in the crowded practice rooms at NYU. Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino were both studying music business while fostering dreams of writing and performing. Ian quickly saw potential in partnering with Chad, and started lobbying him to work together on new songs.
Fast forward a few years and, in 2012, A Great Big World was born. Making positive, piano-driven pop bursting with harmonies and woven together with a fun whimsical twist, the duo gained support through fans entirely on Kickstarter to fund their first EP.
They completed their first national tours and opened shows for Ingrid Michaelson, Five For Fighting, and Glee star Matthew Morrison. Their live performances showcased their deep friendship, and featured a warm, engaging interplay and theatrical touches reminiscent of artists like Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John and, most currently, FUN.
Their song “This Is the New Year” gained new life in 2013 by being performed by the cast of Fox’s hit TV series Glee.
“When we wrote ‘This Is the New Year,’ we always said ‘this would be perfect for Glee!'” said an enthused Chad. “We still can’t even believe it’s all real.”
“This Is the New Year” has been featured on One Tree Hill, MTV, The Amazing Race, ESPN, and Good Morning America. A Great Big World has performed on the Rachael Ray Show, The Today Show and recently The O Music Awards.
Following in the footsteps of “This Is the New Year,” a new anthem geared toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community called “Everyone Is Gay.” This artsy music video features cartoons, cut-outs and other fun-loving little ditties that will bring a smile to anyone keen enough to push play. We have it for you right here.
A Great Big World will release their first full-length album in October 2013.
Note from the band:
We are so proud and excited to release the new music video for our song “Everyone Is Gay.” A while ago, our friends Kristin and Dannielle (who run a website called EveryoneIsGay.com that offers advice to LGBTQ youth) challenged us to write the “gayest song ever” for a compilation. And this song was the result! We believe in their mission and stand by all those who live in fear of being their authentic selves. NO ONE deserves to be bullied or treated unfairly based on sexual preference. Diversity should be celebrated!
Thank you to Kristin and Dannielle at [Everyone Is Gay] for inspiring this!!!
And a huuuuuge thank you to the following people for spending countless hours making this beautifully joyous video and music!! We hope you enjoy it and spread the word that EVERYONE IS GAY! Yay!
