tumblr_n9juzu6l7G1s113xlo1_400MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc., has announced that Seth Rogen and James Franco will kick off VMA week with their 30-minute special “Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special” on Sunday, August 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Featuring Seth Rogen and James Franco in character from their upcoming film The Interview, “Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special” will feature VMA performers Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea, and VMA nominee Jason Derulo subjecting themselves to the hilarious antics of the fictional popular celebrity tabloid TV show Skylark Tonight. The special will include Dave Skylark (James Franco) and producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) grilling each interviewee about everything ranging from derrières to the benefits of being Australian and the merits of singing one’s name.

In the action-comedy The Interview, Skylark and his producer Rapoport run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show Skylark Tonight. When they discover that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the most unlikely candidates, to “take out” Kim Jong-un.

The film is directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.  The screenplay is by Dan Sterling, with a story by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Dan Sterling. The producers are Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver.  The film will be released on December 25, 2014.

“Dave Skylark’s Very Special VMA Special” will air exactly one week in advance of the 2014 “MTV Video Music Awards,” featuring performances by Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea with Rita Ora, Usher, Maroon 5, 5 Seconds of Summer, Ariana Grande, and Beyonce. The VMAs will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, August 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
