Comedian Kathy Griffin has officially announced she will be taking Joan Rivers’ spot as co-host on E!’s Fashion Police.
“[It’s] so exciting to be joining Fashion Police,” Griffin said. “Of course, it’s in the honor of my dear, dear friend Joan Rivers, and to take that chair means so much. I think I can hear from heaven saying ‘Don’t hold back!’”
Rivers passed away on September 4 after complications from a throat procedure.
Griffin said her decision to take over wasn’t an easy one. She even wanted to get her daughter Melissa Rivers’ approval before deciding.
“Kathy just feels right, and Brad [Goreski] brings a fun, new voice to join Giuliana and Kelly in this ensemble,” she said. “I‘m exciting to see where this panel takes this series my mother so adored in this next carnation.”
Apparently, Joan wanted the same for Griffin.
“Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy,” an insider said. “They talked about it many times. They have such a similar sense of humor and were the best of friends. Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on Fashion Police and she would have definitely approved.”
Griffin said she isn’t taking her new position lightly.
“I get it! These are some big shoes I’m going to fill,” she said. “Joan was truly one of a kind. Now I hope you will accept me for me. I’m just Kathy. Did I say I’m just Kathy?” I meant I’m Kathy F—-ing Griffin and you celebrities better strap yourself in, as I am taking no prisoners. I am not holding back so DAMMIT let’s have some fun.”
Fashion Police will return the beginning of 2015 with 17 episodes instead of a weekly show.
