KatyPerry3Katy Perry was literally moved to tears by the Broadway production of Kinky Boots.

The singer was among the crowd at New York City’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre on May 1 and couldn’t keep her eyes dry.

“She walked backstage and had tears streaming down her face!” Kinky Boots cast member Celina Carvajal told Us Weekly.  “When she tried to tell us how much she loved the show she would start to well up again. She had to turn away and grab a tissue and kept apologizing to us. She loved the show’s message and found it touching. She had the best reaction I’ve seen so far.”

Perry even had to take a minute to get herself together before meeting her idol, Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical. Lauper offered Perry a tissue, saying she “has been crying all week.”

Based on the true story of a shoemaker that creates custom fetishism footwear for men and befriends a drag queen named Lola, the musical takes after the 2005 movie.

The musical is up for 13 Tony Award nominations, and Perry told her Twittersphere she thinks Billy Porter is very deserving of winning the Best Actor in a Musical category.

“Just saw KINKY BOOTS on Broadway & cried w/joy from its powerful, beautiful message,” she tweeted. “Congrats on every of its deserved 13 Tony nominations! If Billy Porter doesn’t win the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical…there will be words…Trust.”
