Lucy Lawless, best known as the 90s warrior princess Xena, will be joining season two of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Lawless’s character, Isabelle Hartley, will be a S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran who is to “help Agent Phil Coulson rebuild the American espionage organization.”
Though her character Xena never officially came out as a lesbian, Lawless herself said she definitely was.
During an interview with Lesbian News in 2003, Lawless said that she felt her character of five years was “definitely gay.”
According to Lawless, she didn’t think about Xena being gay until after the show ended. She’d “never really taken the character seriously and spent most of her time on film just enjoying the sweet gig of kicking men in the nuts and throwing charkrams at Hercules.”
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere September 23 on ABC.
