Leviticus 18:22 says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” You know what we say here in Seattle as we’re praying for five o’clock Monday through Friday? “Thou shall not skip thou second coffee break. It is an abomination.”
Two things that have absolutely nothing to do with one another – Christianity and coffee – are suddenly entangled in a messy war of words, cream and sugar because of USA Christian Ministries president Pastor Steven Andrew’s marriage equality remarks involving Seattle’s offspring – Starbucks.
Pastor Steven Andrew said, “Starbucks is no longer fashionable. If your church still uses Starbucks, then your pastor is a friend of the world.”
We take it that’s a bad thing?
He adds, “Starbucks can follow Satan if they want to. However, pastors are to help Christians. Are you on the Lord’s side? Will you help the USA be blessed by God?”
Okay, so first: Starbucks is not only available in the USA. It is consumed internationally. Does that mean that international Starbucks store locations will not automatically go to hell? And, if so, isn’t that considered discrimination?
Secondly, God loves AA meetings. When my friends attend the meetings on Capitol Hill, they drink a whole lot of coffee – from Starbucks – and discuss God and his forgiveness…and it’s in the USA!
Call me confused baffled and bewildered.
Time for a coffee break.
