Neil Patrick Harris has been a busy guy this week.  Life after How I Met Your Mother for Harris seems to only have made him higher in demand.  The longtime television star and, more recently, film star (Gone Girl), Harris will be hosting a new hour long variety show on NBC. The announcement was made on Monday by NBC.

The concept of the show will be based on a popular show in the UK titled, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which will include comedic skits, musical numbers, mini game shows, and hidden camera pranks. The show is expected to offer a fresh and new format to NBC’s programming lineup.

Upon watching the British hit program, Harris was inspired by the comedy duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly who host the show.

“As I watched the show, I couldn’t stop smiling,” Harris said. “Now that I’ve seen many seasons, my face hurts. It’s a game-changer. Nothing like this has been done before, and its unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!”

Saturday Night Takeaway has been a hit in Britain since 2002. The format is also popular in Germany, Portugal, Italy, and Belgium, said Paul Buccieri, chairman of ITV Studios U.S. Group and Global Entertainment.

“We are delighted that its expansion to the U.S. includes the multi-talented star Neil Patrick Harris,” Buccieri said.

The title or air date for the upcoming show has yet to be announced; however, NBC is very excited to have Harris on board to take on this new endeavor with them.

The variety show seemed to be a great fit for the multi-talented Harris who is known for his ability to entertain on stage and host many award shows including this year’s Academy Awards.

“All of us here at NBC have been dying to work with Neil, as we’ve watched him brilliantly host the Tonys and Emmys,” Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment president for alternative and late-night programming, said in a statement. “This series will suit his extraordinary talents perfectly.”

If that wasn’t enough on Harris’ plate these days, TVLINE has confirmed that Harris and his husband, David Burtka, will guest star in the final two episodes of American Horror Story: Freak Show.  Harris will play the role of a “chameleon salesman” and his husband will be engaged in a provocative scene with Jessica Lange’s character, Elsa Mars.

Plan on seeing a lot more of Harris in the future on your television and set your DVR accordingly!
