Orange is the New Black’s Lea Delaria, Uzo Aduba and Kate Mulgrew have all created their own bow ties to add to Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s line that fights for LGBT marriage equality.
In 2012, Ferguson and husband Justin Mikita created the Tie The Knot Foundation, which supports the fight for marriage equality with a line of bow ties.
“It’s just a fun way to spruce up an outfit,” Ferguson said when he created the foundation. “Men don’t get fun, exciting things to wear.”
Delaria had some help creating her bow tie from her fashion editor fiancé, Chelsea Fairless.
“Since my fiancé works in fashion, I asked her to help me with the concept,” Delaria, 56, said. “We considered a screwdriver because of the obvious tie-in with the show but we ultimately chose a ‘50s pin-up girl – which is much more me.”
Mulgrew was inspired by a papier-mâché chicken at her apartment.
Donations from the bow ties benefit foundations like the American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal, the Human Rights Campaign, and more.
