“Until Florida can get same-sex marriage legal, we are excited to be campaigning for newlyweds from over 15 states to select Orlando as their honeymoon destination of choice,” said Mikael Frank Audebert, executive director. “From theme parks to golfing, from kayaking our natural springs to fine dining in our several downtowns, from hot air ballooning to extraordinary shopping, we have everything LGBT newlyweds need to create new memories as they finally get recognized as equal.”
Converge Orlando was created three years ago to enhance the LGBT-friendly perception of Orlando, which is one of the top 10 travel destinations the LGBT community.
It’s estimated 50,000 same-sex couples will get married next year in the United Sates, bringing in about $150 million spent towards honeymoons.
Starting November 10, Converge Orlando will enroll hotels and resorts into the organization. Starting December 1 they will provide specials on rooms, parks and dining etc. to honeymooners who present their marriage certificate.
Starting December 1, a 15-state ad campaign will be released, sponsored by Macy’s and The Wedding Alliance with ads on Facebook, Google, radio, and in print.
