Paris has won the bid to host the 2018 Gay Games.
The Gay Games are being held in Cleveland, Ohio this year and over 15,000 competitors are expected. The games are held every four years as the LGBT community’s answer to the Olympics.
Recently, tens of thousands of protests in France have occurred due to the opposition of the gay marriage bill.
Paris’ Deputy Philippe Ducloux said, “For all Parisians, it will be an honor to welcome the 10th Gay Games. All participants will be welcomed.”
Valerie Fourneyron, France’s Sports Minister, said she hopes the games will make “for a more inclusive and generous society in France.”
