Washington House Bill 1649 (Concerning Reciprocity and Statutory Construction with Regard to Domestic Partnerships) passed the Senate today with a vote of 28 in favor, 19 against and two undecided.

Joining Rep Laurie Jinkins in the bill she sponsored: Representatives Pedersen, Kenney, Pettigrew, Ladenburg, Lytton, Stanford, Billig, Ryu, Liias, Seaquist, Darneille, Dickerson, Dunshee, Fitzgibbon, Upthegrove, Reykdal, Finn, Moscoso, Takko, Rolfes, Clibborn, Jacks, Morris, Cody, Roberts, Orwall, Green, Van De Wege, Ormsby, Hudgins, Sells, Kelley, Blake, Appleton, Kagi, Santos, Hurst, Kirby, Eddy, Probst, Springer, Miloscia, Maxwell, Sullivan, Goodman, Frockt, Carlyle, Haigh, Moeller, Hunter, Tharinger, Hunt, McCoy, and Hasegawa.

HB 1649 provides the rights of domestic partnerships to gay and lesbian couples when in Washington State who legally wed in jurisdictions where it is legal. Presently these families have no rights in Washington State. The bill now goes to the Governor for review and signature.
