The Talk co-host married songwriter Linda Perry on Sunday, March 30, and just got back from the honeymoon. On Monday Gilbert gushed on The Talk about the wedding, admitting marriage feels different than she had expected.
“It definitely feels different, like I thought it might feel a little different, but it feels more different than you’d expect,” she said. “You feel like you’re part of this institution and official and ‘I better not mess this up!’ You feel safer, in a way, like you’ve really committed.”
The two wed at a friend’s house in Malibu called One Gun Ranch.
“We thought it was going to rain, and we just got lucky it didn’t,” Gilbert said. “And it started at this cocktail party in the beginning, and we just kinda decided we wanted to all be together and enjoy peoples’ company because I think people miss that part of their wedding, and we wanted to bring everybody with us down the hill and have this communal feeling.”
The couple started dating in 2011 and got engaged a year earlier. The two were at a park having a picnic when a street musician next to them started playing a song they both love.
“I’m like, ‘Oh that’s so weird, this is so magical and amazing,’” Gilbert said at the time.
“Suddenly the people picnicking next to us pull out string instruments from under the blanket and walk over and they start playing ‘Love Song’ [by the Cure.]” Perry pulled out a ring and asked Gilbert to marry her.
Gilbert invited her co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler, Julie Chen, and Sheryl Underwood to the wedding. They said they were thankful to be a part of such a memorable occasion.
“Honestly it’s one of those days having the people you love there that makes it so special,” Gilbert said. “And even for the people who weren’t there, just feeling everybody’s support and everybody joining us on the journey is what made it so incredible.”
