Iconic comedian Joan Rivers was rushed to the hospital Thursday after she stopped breathing and fell into cardiac arrest. At the moment it happened, she was having a procedure done on her throat at the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic.
Rivers is currently being hospitalized at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Reports indicate that she is in “stable but critical” condition.
Rivers, 81, has maintained a busy schedule between doing shows and maintaining her role as a host on Fashion Police on the E! network. She has also recently released a new book, Diary of a Mad Diva.
Rivers has been a longtime advocate and ally for the LGBT community. Even still, she was recently put under the flame for comments she made about President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
When a photographer asked Rivers in July if she thought the U.S. would ever see a gay or female president she quipped, “We already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down. You know Michelle [Obama] is a trans.”
Rivers released a statement to CNN following her fumble with the LGBT community, saying: “I think it’s a compliment. She’s so attractive, tall, with a beautiful body, great face, does great makeup. Take a look and go back to La Cage Au Follies (sic). The most gorgeous women are transgender. Stop it already…and if you want to talk about ‘politically correct,’ I think this is a ‘politically incorrect’ attack on me because I’m old, Jewish, a woman and a ‘hetty’ – a heteosexual …and I plan to sue the reporter who, when he turned off his camera, tried to touch me inappropriately on the a** – luckily he hit my ankle. Read the book … if you think that’s silly, wait to (sic) you see what I say about FDR and Eleanor!”
Feel better, Joan.
