Sounders Women 13The Sounders Women scored three goals and earned a shutout over the Colorado Pride in their first home match of the W-League campaign. Emma Follis scored the first and last goal of the night, while goalkeeper Anna Picarelli notched 14 saves to preserve the shutout.

The Sounders Women started and finished the scoring with an early first half goal, and two late second half goals. With the Sounders securing the lead in the second half, the Pride maintained pressure for the majority of the match with 22 shots, but never scored.

The Sounders Women opened up scoring in the 10th minute. The play started on the right side where Jaclyn Softli evaded a defender and drilled the ball straight to off the crossbar. The ball rebounded to the penalty spot for Emma Follis, who calmly finished the play.

Throughout the first 45 minutes of the game, it was clear that Pride was searching for retaliation against the Sounders, but was unsuccessful. Pride had eight shots, and five shots on goal in the first half of the match compared to the Sounders, three shots, and two on goal.

The halftime score of the match was a 1-0 Sounders lead.

In the 69th minute, the Sounders Women doubled the lead despite a strong start of the 2nd half for Colorado. From the left side of the field, 40 yards from goal, Brooke Gilbert drove a free kick to the back post. Nicole Setterlund put a head on the ball and knocked it off the right upright. Like the first goal, the ball bounced back to a Sounder. Kennya Cordner was in the right place at the right time and volleyed into the lower left side of the goal to finish the play.

Emma Follis made the lead comfortable in the 83rd minute. Her second goal of the night started with a bad back pass from Pride, and ended in a 3-0 Sounders victory. After fighting off the ball from Pride defenders, Follis was left one-on-one with Pride goalkeeper, Eckerstrom. Follis won a footrace to the ball and poked it past the keeper, and straight to the net.

The next Sounders Women W-League regular season match is next Friday night (June 20) against the Colorado Storm at 7 p.m. at Starfire Sports Stadium. For tickets and details, see SoundersWomen.com.
