The Seattle Storm will honor an exceptional group of community members at its Hero Appreciation Night when the team plays Connecticut at 6:00pm, Sunday, Sept. 16. Several individuals and groups will be recognized as local heroes at a pregame ceremony prior to the home game at KeyArena.

The 2012 honorees include:

  • Three members of the Seattle Police Department who helped find and corner a gunman suspected of killing five innocent people at a café in north Seattle in May.
  • Officer Tony Brock of the Washington State Patrol, recent Medal of Courage recipient.
  • Three employees of the Bellevue Sports Club who revived a man who collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest while exercising.
  • Three chaplains from the Bothell Volunteer Police and Fire Department.
  • Two Seattle Storm Season Ticket Holders who rescued 17 teenagers after their dragon boat capsized on Lake Washington last July.

In addition to honoring the above-listed individuals and groups, the Seattle Children’s Chorus will be singing the national anthem with the University of Washington ROTC program serving as the Color Guard. Women veterans will be conducting the 50/50 raffle and various men and women in uniform will take part in in-game contests.

As a thank you to all those who serve, the Storm is extending an invitation to the game with the following offer: buy two tickets to the September 16 Hero Appreciation Night and the Storm will give two free tickets to a police, fire or military family.

The Storm has clinched a 2012 playoff berth and a WNBA-record ninth consecutive appearance in postseason play (2004-12). Seattle’s opponent, date and game time will be determined by the conclusion of the regular season on Sept. 23. The best-of-three Western Conference Semifinals begin Sept. 27. The Conference Finals begin Oct. 4 and the best-of-five WNBA Finals begin Oct. 14.
