Longtime ally to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, actress Sharon Gless, has made a video in support of Equality Florida’s Get Engaged Campaign which supports marriage equality in her home state of 20 years.
Gless played tough police detective Chris Cagney in Cagney & Lacey in the ‘80s where she first gained her LGBT following. She went on to play a supportive mother of a gay son in Queer as Folk and a lesbian woman in Hannah Free.
“I can’t imagine what my life would be like if someone told me I couldn’t marry the person I love,” Gless says in the video. “Yet that is what is going on in the state of Florida every day, when they tell thousands of men and women that they cannot have what we all want.
Gless and the six couples suing Florida for equal marriage rights will receive the Voice for Equality Award on March 16 during the Annual Miami Gala.
