On March 22 and 23, the Sounders Women will hold open tryouts for the 2014 Sounders Women roster. All players looking to join the Sounders Women can test their skills in front of Sounders Women coaches and staff with a chance to be a Sounder. Registration is now active on SoundersWomen.com.
The Sounders Women proved again last year with multiple players jumping from amateur to professional contracts following their time with the Sounders. Other players moved up the ranks of youth and full national teams, boosted by the coaching and exposure offered by the Sounders Women organization. This tryout is for a select group that will join players recruited from colleges throughout the nation.
This year’s tryouts will be held at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, Washington. All pre-registered players will participate in tryouts on Saturday, March 22. The top players from the Saturday session will be asked to return for the final day of tryouts on Sunday, March 23. Tryouts will be held on Starfire’s Field #11 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. each day.
Sounders Women Head Coach and General Manager, Hubert Busby Jr. said, “The Pacific Northwest has an abundance of talent. We were fortunate enough to unearth some gems last year at the open trials and look to do so again this year.”
“Each year, great players slip through the cracks of recruiting and other soccer institutions. These open tryouts give everyone a chance to prove themselves and show their quality,” Sounders Women Executive Director, Jon Billings said. “We’re always looking for the future and you never know where you might find it.”
Open tryouts are open to female soccer players, ages 16 years and older. Tryouts will feature small-sided as well as 11v11 games. Players will be assessed by members of the Sounders Women coaching staff.
“The technical staff and I are excited and eager to identify some prospects on March 22,” added Coach Busby.
The registration cost for each player is $50. All players must register online at SoundersWomen.com and will not be allowed to participate unless they have registered and pre-paid.
