SNL 40

There were many great moments from Sunday night’s Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special, but I’ve narrowed it down to the Top 5 that I thought stood out the most.

1. Le Tits Now!

Sean Connery plays Jeopardy like no one else…

Darrel Hammond’s parody of Sean Connery along with Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek was one of the best exchanges of the entire show.

The Jeopardy segment of SNL 40 was once again brought back and it was classic. Hammond’s Connery went on to tackle the show categories by mangling them in hilarious fashion as usual. “Who reads” turned into “Whore Ads” and “Let It Snow” turned into “Le Tits Now.”

It brought back the once hilarious Jeopardy segment that included a variety of hilarious characters.  Current SNL regular Kate McKinnon (and the show’s first open lesbian) played one of her best characters, Justin Bieber, while Alec Baldwin introduced Tony Bennett to the game in a very well done parody as well. The three game show contestants were also joined by Burt Reynolds (Norm MacDonald), Christoph Waltz (Taran Killam), Matthew McConaughey (Jim Carrey) and Bill Cosby…yes Bill Cosby (Kenan Thompson).

2. Weekend Update Reunion

The Tina and Amy show…

It was Tina and Amy back together again on the set of Weekend Update!  The classic duo, who have had so many classic moments together on SNL, were joined by another former Weekend Update alum, Jane Curtin.

The three together on set were joined by Emma Stone doing her best impression of Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna, Melissa McCarthy as Chris Farley’s “motivational” speaker Matt Foley (which was hilarious!) and Edward Norton made an attempt at Stefon with help from Bill Hader.

3. Drunk In Love

Beyonce made an appearance…

Maya Rudolph nailed her impression of Beyonce. It was hilarious. The appearance, the voice…totally on point.  She was joined on stage by Martin Short, who accompanied her in the parody. She broke into song twice most notably, “Drunk In Love.”

It was not her first time playing Beyonce on SNL, but probably the most memorable. All it was missing was Jay-Z.

4. Curb Your Enthusiasm

Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David reunite on screen…

When you put Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld together in the same room, it promises to be hilarious.  During Jerry Seinfeld’s skit where he conducted a mock Q/A session with the celebrity filled audience, he pointed out Larry David’s presence and the antics began from there!  Larry David asked, “Was I really a writer on Saturday Night Live?”

Seinfeld responded, “Yes, Larry, you were.  You wrote here for one season.”  David quipped in reply, “And look how big we hit it after that!”  The audience captured on screen laughed throughout the exchange.  The two together were a lone bright spot in the segment sandwiched between a painfully unfunny James Franco and an awkwardly serious moment brought Ellen Cleghorne regarding the lack of women of color on SNL and on Seinfeld.

5. Wayne’s World

Myers and Carvey reunite…

Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) reunited together on their most notable sketch, Wayne’s World, to count down an SNL-themed Top 10 list. The SNL topical list included a thank you to producer Lorne Michaels and a very hilarious gag pointed at Kanye West, asking him not to storm the stage!
