The first trailer for the 1950s romantic drama Carol has officially come out. The movie stars Cate Blanchett as Carol, a glamorous older married woman, who has caught the eye of a young department store clerk, played by Rooney Mara.
Carol was adapted from The Price of Salt, a 1952 novel by Patricia Highsmith. It is directed by Todd Haynes.
“She writes so fearlessly – and often ambigously, but often ferociously – about human relationships and the human heart.” Blanchett said of Highsmith.
She said she first read her novels when casted in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
“I always have this terrible sense of foreboding, like a thrilling sense of foreboding, like something terrible is going to unfold. Like you never feel safe,” she said.
Mara won best actress for her role at the film’s debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Carol is set to hit theaters on November 20.
