In anticipation of Pope Francis’ visit to the United States, GLAAD just released three short video portraits of LGBT Catholics, each with a message to the pope.
Each video includes personal memories of growing up Catholic for the featured subjects, and the impact it has on their lives today. All of them speak of the hope that they feel with Pope Francis, and the desire they have to be included and welcomed into the life of the Roman Catholic Church.
One video features Nicholas Coppola, who launched a Change.org petition with GLAAD asking Pope Francis to meet with LGBT Catholics during his upcoming visit to the U.S. The petition currently has over 7,000 signatures – and there’s still time to add your name!
Additional videos feature GLAAD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, and GLAAD’s Director of Spanish Language and Latino Media, Monica Trasandes. Check out both below.
These videos are a part of GLAAD’s #TellThePope campaign urging LGBT Catholics to reach out to the Pope in hopes that he will meet with them and their families during his visit.
It’s time for the voices of many devout LGBT Catholics and their allies to be heard.
You can join us by submitting a photo, video, or story to our #TellThePope tumblr sharing your experience as an LGBT person or ally.
